Mario Maker workshop crash course
Nintendo’s Mario Maker games are an excellent tool for teaching level design. In 2019, we ran a +20 week, online-only workshop using Super Mario Maker 2 as a platform to rapidly share and test gameplay ideas. In this panel, we recap the lessons learned about Mario’s unique and top quality level design. Lessons include basic layouts, enemy complexity, layers, skill breakdowns, and secrets. We’ll also play through some of our best levels with commentary. If you own Mario Maker 2, have it ready with your switch in hand for more fun.

Tackling big issues in games
The panel will discuss how E-line Media's recently released ocean adventure game Beyond Blue addresses some of the big issues facing the oceans today such as the human impact on the ocean environment and how this was incorporated into the game. This will be discussed by the Director of Beyond Blue and some of the world's leading ocean scientists. E-line Media is a developer and publisher of games that produces games that help people understand and shape the world. Their previous titles include BAFTA-winning game Never Alone, which celebrated the Alaska Native community.
